Summer savory or throubi in Greek is a perennial plant of the Mediterranean. Throubi is usually used in cooking and its healing properties are known since ancient times. The ancient Greeks were making wine flavored with this herb, named throumviti. Theophrastus and Dioscorides, fathers of herbal medicine and pharmacology, used it as a natural disinfectant and antiseptic agent, due to its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It contributes significantly to the prevention of skin aging, as it owns remarkable antioxidant activity which restrains free radicals that can damage cell membrane causing wrinkles.
