Bay Laurel

Apollo made this aromatic evergreen tree his sacred one. In the ancient Olympic Games all the champions were crowned with a daphne, a laurel wreath, the symbol of highest status. Daphne’s leaves possess flavonoids which attribute antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Aqueous extracts of bay laurel were used, since antiquity, as astringents and even as a treatment for healing open wounds.
